i will try to fix you

I'm so glad my pals were home this weekend from various locations a-far. It was so great to see Carey and Claire even though I got the worst TA migraine in the history of migraines when Claire was here. At least I studied for the GRE today, I have been learning a lot of new words, but also discovering my craptacular ability in geometry. Does anyone else find it strange that I am proficient in calculus but have a hard time with GRE math? I mean I do well with it, but I guess I am really out of practice.

Thanksgiving was, ahem, interesting, as it usually is in my family. My aunt (ie my mom's brother's wife iw no blood relation) has a really strange family. One of her sisters has 7-year-old quads who are insane. My cousin Jayme has a cute baby named Makayla who is 6 mo. old, and I basically played with her the entire time. This is strange because I don't usually like babies all that much. However, she is good and cute, so we were golden. The only other people close to my age are a 6th grader and an 18-year-old who just had a baby in May. There really is no common ground for conversation. At least getting a glimpse of my insane, not really related, family, only happens twice a year. I mean, I really don't need to see my aunts sister on her third marriage at the age of 45. I'm not really sure she's a great influence. Despite their craziness, they are all nice people, so really it wasn't too bad. Plus my cousin lives a mere, maybe 1000 feet away from my house, so really the commute was non-existant, which is good because I had to drive over the green bean casserole which I HATE so I kept the windows open on a 16 degree day so Marge wouldn't smell like that horrid mass of ingredients us midwesterners call a "hotdish".

Stuff is going well will the new man in my life, I haven't come to a complete conclusion on how long we will date, but at least I find myself liking him more and more each time I see him. Hopefully this is a good sign and will make us for the fact that he is 5'6". I am not hating on short men, its just that I own a lot of heels.

In other happy news, Claire got me a sweet Napoleon Dynamite shirt and cherry purse for Christmas/Bday. The shirt is pink (!!) and has a picture of a LIGER and it says "pretty much my favorite animal". Basically the best shirt ever!

Christmas in Christ Chapel in a mere 6 days; I am so pumped to see my fellow Gusties again and hear the beautiful singing!

I also made it into the MN Chorale, the premier MN professional choir, so I am basically PUMPED! We all start on the waiting list because there are so many women, but I am okay with that, because hopefully I will be called on after Christmas when there is more time! I can't wait to sing in Orchestra Hall, the St Paul Cathedral, and do other random gigs around the city. YAY for gigs, NAY for the $100 UGLY dress I have to buy. Oh well, small (figurative) price I have to be to once again be a choir DIVA!!

ONLY 29 days until CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!! :)

november ramblings

All I can say, is that corporate America isn't horrible, but when it all comes down to it, it's just a job.

I am WAY more pumped to hear how my MN Chorale Audition went; just being able to sing a song for someone else with someone playing piano in the background was so nice, I've forgotten the simply joy of singing.

Peace Corps, Grad school for Econ, Law School. I still can't pick. If you have any thoughts, let me know. Just know that I can do Peace Corps after any of the other two. I have a feeling a lot of people would choose that one. It is not that I don't want to do it; it's just that 27 months is a LONG TIME to be gone especially when you plan on going to back to school. Either way, I am having a small amount of fun learning new GRE words, but not having fun with the match, which is strange, because I did a lot of math in college. Silly silly me.

I had Kashi cereal this morning and it was GROSS. I am boycotting it forever. I am also boycotting Ikea furniture because it is never as sturdy as it is in the store, and even thought it is cheap and looks good, it is a disaster waiting to happen when you assemble. I did a fabulous job of assembling it as best as I could, but wait, there are small gaps in the shelves that can't be fixed. Booo.

I want to travel again. It is time for vay cay. Across the world vay cay would be the greatest, but I think across the country is also great as well. I can't wait to get my vacation! yeah!

Go. Be Great. Be Green.

Well, there you have it. Go. Be Great. Be Green. The Marshall Field's company saying. I learned that after watching a series of video clips that attest to the history and clientele of good ol Marshall Field's. Funny, because we are going to become Macy's in 2006.

Training for my position has gone well. My job title is "Business Analyst", or BA. But the best part of it is that because I am in training my title is BA in training, or BAIT. I am referred to as BAIT all day long. Yessss.

My coworkers are really nice. And the seven girls I am training with are all really nice. We are all about the same age, one is 27 but the rest are 22, 23, and 24. We have spent our days at systems training, store visits, and at Federated Meetings. I have a "mentor" who is another more experenced BA in the department where I am training, tabletop. More specifically, I make sure all the 64 Marshall Field's have the right quantities of marketplace glasswear and table linens. Might sound a little segmented, but considering I have to advise all the MF buyers how well everything is selling, make sure they are not overbuying in Europe and NYC, and advise them of the actual floor trend, I end up being a glorified financial babysitter with a lot of responsibility. This is why I like the job thus far. It is a real person job. I am responsible for things, and execute them until their completion. They don't baby us; they don't hold our hands. We just do it. I doubt that many recent grads have quite as much responsibility as this (well, monetary wise, because all of you educating america are responsible for the world!). So that is good.

The one hour commute sucks, but I think I will get used to it. I like riding the bus part of the way to jam out to tunes or read a book. It is frusterating in the afternoon when I just want to go HOME, but it is all good. I have spent quite a bit of money at MF so far, but at least there is a good discount!

I am studying for th GRE and thinking of taking it in December or January, depending on the speed that I can learn the words and review the math! Crazy, but true! I am still not really sure what next year will hold for me. I have to call the Peace Corps lady and we are going to talk about possible locations, so that should be interesting!

The free weekends are great, it is nice to have a job where you get weekends off and one hour lunches! The real world sucks, but at least they do their best to make it suck a little less each day! Plus I got paid, which made it suck A LOT less!

It is Saturday, off to make flashcards at Caribou for the GRE!

10.05.2005

life is always around the corner

It's crazy all the things you do during an unwanted two week vacation....Well, not unwanted, just forced. HA!

I am pumped to start my new job at Marshall Fields, and since I start most topics with a TA (Trick-Ass: adj. term of endearment, craptasticness, contextual interpretation) I now work at TAMF!!!! I am excited to meet the new people there and to really see if I like it or not, which is truly what I do not know at this point. Either way, it will be fun to be around people my age, go on skyway adventures :), and just do the downtown thing.

My new plans in life, and watch out, becaue they change daily! One, is to join the Peace Corps after I work at TAMF for about a year or when I get done paying off my loans. Then, I will embark upon the PC journey, hopefully to an awesome country, a list of my favs with programs I am interested in are: Senegal, Bulgaria, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Macedonia, Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, Mali, Romania, Ukraine, Jordan (!!!), Morocco (!!!), Bangladesh, China, Thailand, or Cameroon!!! Mostly I want to go anywhere! I just can't get the feeling of civil service out of my mind, its is just insane! All the time I am thinking about being in another country, learning a new language, being a part of successful and sustainable development initiatives! Yeah! The thought is so tantilizing and exciting!

The PC is cool becuase after my return I would love to go to Duke Universty for the Masters in International Development Policy (umm...SCHWING!) which prepares professionals for service in the goverment and in international development policy. Note* you need an econ background to be in this program (ON IT!) and many of the students are from developing countries who are coming to be educated to return to their country to work on development issues there. Umm....COULD I BE MORE EXCITED?!?!?

All in all, who knows if this will go through. Still, it is nice to have a slight plan, even thought, duh, knowing me, it is subject to change.

10.03.2005

who does that?

I have learned a lot of things in the past two months including, but not limited to:

1. It is good to freak out once-in-awhile
2. I have sweet friends
3. Retail?! Oh well, here I come Marshall Field's
4. Arabic Music is KICK ASS
5. My pals from the U of M have stellar bday celebrations
6. Nicollet Mall is my new friend
7. Peace Corps- hmm...
8. I really like NYC
9. LSAT or GRE?
10. The WBL library is STELLAR
11. Hindi/Arabic lessons, here I come (well, must find teacher!)
12. I heart India
13. Nancy Drew- Social Commentary from the 1930s....priceless
14. New iPod, New Job, New Life
15. YoYo Ma + Brahms= a schwingably delicious combo
16. You gotta keep score with yourself
17. Operation: get out of America

Crazy, non? Who knows, I am pretty darn insane! Meh, it is good to wander on the road of life.

9.28.2005

options like whoa

Well, it is interesting to have some time off between jobs becuase it gets you thinking about EVERYTHING. First off, what the hell do I actually want to do with my life? Yes there are broad answers, but I am waaaaay too underqualified for basically anything that I want to apply for. I mean, there are a few leads that appear to be taking FOREVER to get back, but nothing I can see myself doing as my life's work right now. On top of that, old relationships have been haunting me. I am trying to decide if it is okay to be friends with an ex, but I come to the conclusion that it is not, because every time I see a new picture with the girlfriend I want to go insane. I mean, he is far away, this is good for me, and I don't think we would be a couple that would stay together for all time, but there was a time in my life that I thought we would be together forever, insane as it was. I tell you, first loves fuck you over for life.

Maybe I should be a little more optimistic. New love prospects could be anywhere, which is good, becuase I am kind of sick of being single when everyone else is not. But the excitment of new love slash what I would call the "honeymoon" phase is intoxicating in itself. Punch drunk love is no understatement. I think most people would agree. Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke.

So I applied for the Peace Corps, which is TA exciting. I am pretty pumped about it. I am not sure that is what ends up happening, but if I actually go and gt to do it, I will freak out with excitment. Wow, what I just wrote reassured myself. I really want to go to the Middle East or Bangladesh, as there is no program in India. It is probably better that I broaden my geographical horizons anyway. Meeting fun fellow peace-core-ites would possibly be the most fun and life changing experience anyway, just like India, because there are people that care about the world. What great conversation, even if you are sitting in the middle of nowhere Morocco...I'd be okay with that. Bring on the Bedoins!

I am so weird right now. I am incognito, in transition, going crazy, unsure, sure, here, there. Basically a Dr. Seuss book waiting to happen. But, for now, I am reasonably okay with that.

Sometimes all you need is a Ahsaas and a Sanam.

9.20.2005

a change will do you good

Seriously, this break in life has been stellar. I know that after this week I will have some other stellar employment is a great thought in life, and all will be good.

PLUS I am seeing Tracy Chapman on October 14th which will be, well, SWEET. Props to Gups for working that employee club discount!

For all the sleuths in my life, and you know who you are, you rock and THANKS!

Life is good in general, I seriously don't have any major complaints, and mom will be out of town for all of next week, so I will have the entire house to myself! YEAH! I am sure something will happen. ~~

Summary of last week: Brenda Weiler; AWESOME
Dan Kusz band, slightly strophic and tumbling strain heavy, but still stellar
PIZZA HUT- YESSSSSSSS
Parking Ticket- BAD
Paying to Park in Ramps- BAD

let hope this all pans out---

9.13.2005

employment-o-rama

Well, it becomes increasinly clear with each blog that I am not very good at updating them any more and sporadically. Which is sad because it is not like I don't have time. The employment search is going well, better than what I expected to be quite honest. I am glad I deferred a year, I feel like this 365 days in the "real world" will make me want to go to law school "real bad". I have turned down a job with US bank but have pending interviews at a few other places, so it is all going pretty well. I worked all summer, so I am not uber poor or anything, but if I get another parking ticked like I did today ($34) at the Fed, good lord, I will have spend my slaving away in retail because I didn't put enough freaking quarters in the meter!

Other than that, this first week in September has been fairly significant; saying goodbye to a long time friend who I just couldn't really deal with, searching for employment, and getting my bearings and trying to keep my soul in the real world. We will see how that goes. I surely see how once you enter and then try to do something different, it is difficult.

On a less serious note, I realize that I am obsessed with looking up MLS listings, Fiesta Ware dishes, and Jaws 3 the movie. Who says that? I am not sure if that makes my life just plain sad, or just strange!

I am also wanting to travel again hard core. The new batch of India kiddies sent out a group email that I read and it was soo sad to see that they were there and I wished I was there so much. I really miss India. Each day I remember it somehow and want to get the hell back there. I better start saving my money and not buying Fiesta Ware!

Overall consensus of life: good, hopeful

Let's hope that doesn't change in the near future.

9.02.2005

August

I am a really bad blogger, but I can come to terms with that! August has been a, well, eventful month!

Here are the highlights:
August 14th- first day of law school at Hamline! After $26K in tuition and $700 in books, endless applications and test taking, I am in and this is where I am going.

Ha.

I decide to defer a week into it! Oh well, I have many reasons that I won't delve into great detail here, but I am already enrolled for next year, so it's all good. All I can say is that the average age of a Hamline Law Student is 25. Yep, I need to take a year off.

Other than that I have been job searching hardcore. I have enjoyed my two weeks of "umemployment" between Hamline and a job. I was offered a job at US Bank today, which is good, but I think I may want a different job. Either way, something better pan out STAT because I am supposed to start at US Bank in Nicollet Mall next week! I "Corporate Trust Asset Manager Analyst" CRAZY adult title!

Tomorrow I am going to the State Fair, which is a timeless classic that I go to every year but missed last year for India. It will be nice to go to the land of footlong hotdogs, fried-on-a-stick- culinary wonders, and random barn animals.

Things to be excited for:
AQUALUNG concert, Sept 10th---have you heard this CD??? Creamalicious!
Tracy Chapman Concert- Missy and Gups score fabulous tickets to see the greatest diva alive!
Brenda Weiler Concert- Sept 18th--A fabulous singer/songwriter I started liking at GAC. YESSS!!

Now that my unemployment stint is over, how am I ever going to finish all the seasons of Sex in the City? Darn, time to have a real person job. Damn.

8.02.2005

yeah!!

Well, the best news of the day is that I only have ONE day left to work at Walgreens and then I will be done! Now, I can see myself picking up a day here and there, and maybe over Christmas, but I am majorly done, and can turn in my large keyring and grey management vest!

That is also a crazy situation because it means that I am starting school soon, and there are quite a few advanced assignments that I have not started, so I better get cracking!

It has been nice hearing from old friends these past few days, many of whom are engaged. Hard to believe, but I guess I better just keep facing reality! Some people are so close to marriage and some are so far. It is a strange mixed feeling I guess. Despite that, I am so happy my pal-jis are finding "the one", so exciting!

Tomorrow night we are going to our location, ie the NHS class of 2001's version of "The Max"- Caribou Coffee. It will be just like old time--fabulous.

I am leaving for NYC in just two days- yesssssssssssss! Even though we leave at trick-ass 6:30 am, it will be nice to have the entire day there , just as long as we don't pass out of tiredness. Hopefully the weather cooperates and all that nerdy stuff, rain all the time would most surely be a damper, but I guess we would deal. I am super excited to see the Broadway show "Avenue Q" on Friday night when we are also going out to a fancy dinner and to the Empire State Building. NYC, here I come (for the second time this year!).

This diva is off to bed, I want to be fully awake for my last shift!

"Be generous. With your time, your love, your compassion, and your talents"

I've got a good mind to throw it all away

I swear, I have listened to the song "Maddening Shroud" by Frou Frou at least 100 times today. All I did on my various jaunts across the twin cities was put it on repeat over and over and over. It is such a good song.

Sometimes I like to get away from this saddening crowd
Sometimes I feel my life is all in vain
Maybe it's time for me to pack it in
Maybe it's time for me to jack it in
Maybe it's time for me to halt
I've got a good mind to throw it all away
Throw it all away
Throw it all away
I've got a good mind to throw it all away
After all, what is it worth?

Seriously, this is such a good song; very applicable to me I think, especially since I am returning from India. I still consider myself a returnee, even though I have been back for almost 7 months now. I bought my books for Hamline today, all $768 worth, and I still have one more to get, which clearly will push the limit to over $800. Yikes. At least we use some of them throughout the whole year.

Buying the books made me become really excited for law school as I start getting my life in perspective. Honestly, I don't think I am going to enjoy the first year of law school, it will be grueling, hard, frusterating, tiring, annoying, and yet it will have its numerious merits. I just keep thinking of the fact that I need a law degree to help people as much as I can, which is exactly what I want to do in my life. Lately, I have been looking into voulenteering next summer in Africa for various NGOs and development projects, I am also sure that I could return to India as well. Honestly, I probably should have gone into the Peace Corps coming out of college, but what is done is done, and I know that after law school I will have the social basis and drive, as well as the academic know-how to be the most effective social justice worker I can be. Still, a huge part of me just wants to return to India or go to Africa and voulenteer forever and help people. I feel like such a dichotomy in that I love black high heels, handbags, shoes; but at the same time, I don't think it really matters at all. Maybe that is why so many of my relationships have changed since I returned from India. I really judge people based on what kind of good they want to do in the world, if they don't give a crap, I don't give a crap about them either. I wish I didn't think that way, but I've noticed lately that I do. People that I thought I really liked and had a lot in common with, all of a sudden I can't even talk to. I know this is part of re-entry from a third world country, but how long is this supposed to last? I don't want to feel like this, but I want to feel like this. I can't live my life constantly worried about the struggles of all the people in the world, beacuse I don't think I'll get the concept of what life is like for everyone and it will be hard for me to bridge the gap--or can I? So much to think about. I hope I meet some awesome social justice zealots at Hamline who share the same ideals as me. That is why India was so great. I was surrounded by an entire group who discussed issues and concerns with genuine passion about understanding and analyzing the problems in order to gain a soultion.

I am in the middle of the book "The End of Poverty" written by Jeffrey Sachs, an economist who is in charge of the UN development goals. He has travelled extensively to many countries, namely India and China, and has fused social economics and monetary economics into this book. Critics said the book "exposed too much emotion" into this problem. All I can say is WHAT THE HELL? And why doesn't anyone care? Why do we all have tunnel vision? It is like 99.9% of priveladged people in the world are going through a tunnel while the rest of the world is outside, not even visible from the comfortable seat on the train.

Sad. Very sad. Heartbreaking. Ignorant.
I've got a good mind to throw it all away-
after all what is it worth?
Some days my strength runs out.

7.25.2005

why do american stores accept canadian money??

I'm not sure when this actually started to bother me...but why do we accept canadian money in America like it is our own?!?! Hello?!?!? Canadian money is not legal tender here! It is worth less than American money as well!!! Who rants about this? Maybe I need to get a life today :)

My Majaraja bed arrived a few days back; it is stellar. What a fancy new mattress can do to your sleep life! It is so nice having gi-normous loads of room to sleep in.

Last night Rob and I went to Cafe Latte on Grand Aveue, ie the only place we hang out. I had the classic cheesecake which was delicious, but I couldn't even finish it. I can't wait to go to NYC with him and eat REAL New York cheesecake! Yeah! Hopefully it does not rain the entire time and it is less than 90 degrees, but who knows what we'll get.

Tomorrow, pre-work I am going to try to get my haircut and get a bunch of other stuff done, but alas, I will probably lay in bed and read Harry Potter. I am so addicted to this book it is not even funny. Plus, apparently, I have to finish it for Jon so he can talk to someone about it. So funny. I see people reading this book everywhere I go! It clearly is a timeless classic.

I can't find my Coldplay CD. It is loaded onto my other computer but the fact that I can't actually find the hard copy is driving me crazy, especially since it is so good!

Off to read HP.

7.18.2005

I am pretty lucky because today ends a 7-day stretch at work and that means I have the next two days off. Without spazzing out due to extreme happiness and glee, let's just say I am happy.

I got my schedule for Hamline next year and it is exactly what I wanted. I am in the afternoon section, which is sweet because then I don't have to be there at some unstellar hour such as 8am. I have class at 11 on two days of the week and start at 1pm the other three days. I usually am done with class at 3:50 so that is pretty nice as well. Not that I will be done studying, but still! I have five classes: torts, contracts, civil procedure, legal research and writing, and criminal law. They all sound so fancy!

My new queen size pillow top bed is coming soon, therefore, I'm off to rearrange my room!

7.15.2005

post walgreens rambling

Well, I've returned from another cumbal crashing and uneventful night at Walgreens. Every time I talk to employees, I realize what a good life I have, and how irresponsible and cocky some people are in life. I suppose we all have our moments!

My trip to NYC is coming up and I am getting excited. Part of the reason is that it will be a good outcome to see where I stand in many different aspects which are too long and complicated to discuss here. I am slightly worried, well REALLY worried that the trip will be fine, and I only mean fine, and it will end with me going crazy and having issues that will lead to a blowout and loss of a friend, but hey, everyone needs some good drama in their life, right? Even though I am playing one of those truly female games, I will see the effort on the other half, and see what to infer from that. I love playing girl tricks like that. Tricks that annoy significant others and people you are dating just to see how they respond and if they will pass the test. Maybe it not that I love it, more that it truly shows the feeling of the other person.

Off to bed to become a Walgreens monkey again tomorrow. Insert cymbal crashing here.

the ghost of you and me

This post might be a little Carrie Bradshaw-esque...consider that your warning.

I am beginning to think that we all have our own Mr. Big, maybe not at the same magnitude as Carrie, but I have started to think that we never get over our first loves. It has been long enough since I have been with mine, and there have been others since, but still his picture slash new girlfriend haunt me a little whenever I see them. I looked through a slide show of some pictures from when I was with him, and as soon as I saw the first picture of the two of us I got such a sinking feeling. I can honestly say that I want nothing more than to just be over him, but somehow someone tells me about him or I look at his facebook profile, or I hear about how he is going to marry some other girl he met in the US. I guess we probably could have never worked, but he started out such a chapter in my life. New interests and relationships were started because of our friendship and relationship. I studied abroad in India partly because of his influence and love for his country. When I was there, so many stories and his familiy relationships made more sense as I saw them in action. I understood why he loves India so much. I think part of the reason I went was to get over him and to understand where he was coming from. It worked for awhile, but even though I don't have feelings for him now, I really HATE hearing about his current relationships. I hate that I think I was played by him, because I am a person that needs to maintain pride and integrity. I can usualyl figure out stuff in life, I don't drink too much, I am not overly obsessive about anything, I have an academic future, and my self esteem gets low at times but only in certain realms, so I have it all covered. I hate boys because you can succeed in every part of life with the exception of the mastry of opposite gender relations. I tired of being pissed off about it.

Here are some good Hindi lyrics on this matter from the best movie ever, Kal Ho Naa Ho:

Life changes its beauty all the time
Sometime's it is shade; sometimes it is sunlight
Live every moment here to your hearts content
The time that is here may not be tomorrow
There is one that loves you whole heartedly
It is difficult to meet that person
If there is someone like that somewhere
They are more beautiful than all
Grab on to that persons hand
They may not be so gracious tomorrow
Live every moment here to your heart's content
For the time that is here now may not be tomorrow
Taking the shadow of your eyelashes when someone comes near
You try to reason with your crazy heart
Your heart just goes on beating
But think, that which is here now
The story may not be here tomorrow
Life changes its beauty all the time
Sometime's its a shade; sometimes a sunlight
Live every moment to your heart's content
For the moment that is here now may not be here tomorrow

Har Ghadi Badal Raha Hai Roop Zindagi
Chaav Hai Kahhi Hai Dhoop Zidnagi
Har Pal Yahan Jee Bhar Jiyo Jo Hai Sama
Kal Ho Na Ho
Har Ghadi Badal Raha Hai Roop Zindagi
Chaav Hai Kahhi Hai Dhoop Zidnagi
Har Pal Yahan Jee Bhar Jiyo Jo Hai Sama
Kal Ho Na Ho

Chaahe Jo Tumhe Poore Dil Se
Milta Hai Woh Mushkil Se
Aisa Jo Koi Kahin Hai Bas Vahi Sabse Hasin Ha
iUs Haath Ko Tum Thaam Lo
Woh Meherbaan Kal Ho Na Ho
Har Pal Yahan Jee Bhar Jiyo Jo Hai Sama
Kal Ho Na Ho

Palko Ke Leke Saaye
Paas Koi Jo Aaye
Lakh Sambhalo Paagal Dil Ko
Dil Dhadke Hi Jaaye
Par Sochlo Is Pal Hai Jo
Woh Dastan Kal Ho Na Ho
Har Pal Yahan Jee Bhar Jiyo Jo Hai Sama
Kal Ho Na Ho
Har Pal Yahan Jee Bhar Jiyo Jo Hai Sama
Kal Ho Na Ho

I guess I will just want for my Indian husband, Punjabi MC/Shahruh Khan to sing me this song~

Never a wish better than this, when you only got a hundred years to live.

I need to grow out this obsession with sad music!! It doesn't help at midnight!

Things to be excited about!
1. My new high quality queen sized bed arrives on Tuesday!
2. NYC in 21 days for the most fun weekend of my life!
3. Only have to work 3 more days then its the pseudo weekend (ie Monday and Tuesday off!)

This is a really long post. That is what happens this late-

the dsl has arrived

This is my third try at a blog but maybe I'll do a better job now that I have three computers at my disposal. That sounds just too sick to be true, considering there is less than one computer per hundred in India, the capital of software outsourcing, but I'll try to deal with that later!

Life post-graduation has been so crazy. Not in the sense that I am uber busy (I mean, I am with all this working), but mostly in the realm of people and their future plans. Little by little I am seeing people that I have not seen since high school and am getting some kind of an idea about what they are doing. I am glad to hear that everyone appears to be doing moderatley well, especially considering that this is a time in our lives when insecurity and self-esteem are at an all time low. I am lucky to have some good direction for the next year, and I know Hamline will be a challenge that will kep me on my toes and hopefully not my nose!

Life is also crazy in terms of reentry, which I still deal with even though I came back a few days before Christmas. It is odd how many situations I face at work and in life that would have been surreal to me in India. For instance, my mom was watering the lawn today and I couldn't get over the fact that we waste perfectly good water to water the lawn! When I was watching the news last night, there was an interview with a woman in Rochester who was dumbfouned when her sprinkler stopped because the city had a diminishing water supply in her nearby water tower. It is funny, I just don't think that Americans get how sacred water is. It is ridiculous that people die in the world from diseases that could have been prevented by simply getting clean drinking water. Is it odd to anyone else that we piss in drinkable water?! I am beginning to see the real truth in life, or maybe truth isn't the word. Quite possibly, it is the full picture of how the world really works. I never really realized that I was so interested in how the world works, but apparently that is how to describe it. In "The World Is Flat" by Thomas Freidman, a book about globalization, he describes ten things that have changed the world in the past twenty years. Some of the things include 9/11 (duh)but other things are so small, like an internet company going public. It now becomes apparent to me how economics and livlihood are inextricably linked. Thank God that was my major.

We'll see if I can figure out how the wireless internet should work at my house...hopefully I'll end up with one more internet connection and not one less.
