The goods:
I'm all caught up on my scrabulous games.
I'm almost done with my 15-18 page paper which is due on Wednesday.
I am wearing a pretty dress to work tomorrow.
I am waiting to hear about my potential new job this week.
Summer class is over on Wednesday, and I'm school-free for 6 weeks.
I got a shirt from Banana Republic for $11.97 that I've been drooling over for months.
The apartment is getting new windows on Wednesday.
I got lots of sleep this weekend.
The bads:
Buying an airline ticket home. They are ridunkulously EXPENSIVO!
Janai will probably have to leave for training soon and will be gone a month.
I am on a fiscal diet until I have paid for my class in August (um, minus the BR purchase!).
I've been less careful with what I'm eating.
I have a long list of stuff to do, and appointments to make!
Well, the goods are longer than the bads. The glass is, indeed, still half full!

I'm ending the weekend more tired than when I started. Not so good, but I had nice weekend, so I suppose it evens out.
After working on my paper today, I commenced with the weekly Sunday night food preparation. People at work think I'm crazy for taking so much class while working, but certain things I do make my life easier. Sunday night food preparation is pretty much one of those. It's important to me to eat healthy food, so every week I prepare what I will eat for the rest of the week and pre-pack it in gladware. I eat pretty much every meal out of gladware, a fact of life I've gotten used to. Here's what's on the menu this week:

Lower row:
1 c. Danon Light and Fit Yogurt with 1c. Trader Joe's frozen berry blend
Upper row:
Baby Spinach, Sliced Mushrooms, and Grape Tomatos. Not shown: 5 individual gladwares of Italian Dressing
Right Side:
Individual Servings of World Market Whole Wheat Tortilla Chips....Can you believe one bag has 12 servings?!
I also made Trader Joe's fire roasted veggie whole grain lasagna. I ate a piece for dinner. 280 cal. 9 grams of fat and 6 grams of fiber. Not bad for a whole meal.
I carry ridiculous amounts of tupperware with me. Tomorrow I will carry a yogurt/fruit one, salad one, dressing one, a nalgene, and probably a tiny one with some applesauce. This is why I require a Mary Poppins style bag. If anyone knows where her carpet bag ended up (the one that she fit a plant, light, shoes, and tape measure in), let me know!

Hot Hot Hot.
I am serious. The high temp today was 99 degrees, and tomorrow, a whopping cold front is coming through, reducing the high to 97 degrees. This weather is KILLING me.
I do not want to:
-wear clothes
-go outside
-eat anything but ice cream
-take warm showers
-ride public transportation
-go to class (because I have to wait for the shuttle outside)
Yesterday, after drinking a northern lite cooler from Caribou, I actually walked into the freezer section of the grocery store next door, just for the enjoyment of it.
Today, when I saw my "trolley boyfriend" Tyrone, I was caked in disgusting sweat. Lucky for me, he still drove me home and said I looked like Ali Larter. I am a-okay with all of this. Even when the humidity rises, my trolley BF will still love me.
Does anyone besides me have public transporation BFs??!?!?

1. I plan my life out way in advance. I always need to buy a planner on paper, because I can't see three months worth of commitments on a Palm or other type of electronic organizer. Already today I was thinking that I needed to buy my planner for next year because I have stuff planned for September and nowhere to write it.
2. If something that I love is on sale, I buy a ridiculous amount of it. I attribute this behavior mostly to my Midwestern roots. Every time I go home, I am shocked at how much food my mom has in the fridge/freezer for just one person. This behavior has obviously been genetically passed to me. For example, yesterday, Fiber One Bars were on sale at the grocery store for $2 (excellent!). I bought 5 boxes... This is why I have Fiber One Bars under my bed in my apartment. Wow.
3. I think I've finally struck some sort of work-life-school balance. When I was in undergrad, I was way to obsessive/high strung about homework, but now with work + school + everything else, I'm somehow finding time to fit in lots of nights out on the town, from drinks to movies to museums. I am very happy about this. It took a long time.
4. I have a strange obsession with (the original) Nancy Drew books which has lasted an almost inappropriate amount of time. I used to enjoy reading them as a child, but now enjoy them for social commentary about the United States in the 1930s. Sometimes I use Nancy Drew words ("Jeepers!") when I speak. Sometimes I wish I could prepare "dainty sandwiches for luncheon" wearing my "attractive linen skirt suit" while "driving my machine to visit Bess and George."
5. I really miss travelling and have not been anywhere besides Minnesota, DC, or NYC for two years now. If I could have three months off of work after graduate school, I would like to visit Africa for a 2 months and then spend my last month in a small town in Greece. I can't imagine a more wonderful bit of travelling!
6. If I were not in grad school for public administration, I think I'd be in school for opera performance. I cannot wait to continue studying voice once my graduate commitments are over. I still have at least 1/8 diva attitude in me (see previous post about church wink!). Music is very important to me, and I believe in its power.
I tag: Carey, Erin, Val, Biff, and Liz.

It's June. That means the sweltering months of July, August, and September are coming to DC. But let's not talk about it.
Speaking of weather, there was, indeed, an F3 tornado in my town when I was home in Minnesota. Lucky for Mom and I, the only damage sustained was from hail, and included the car (which is pretty dented up because we were driving through the hail storm) and minimal siding loss. The real F3 action was about 1.5 miles north of my house, where the effects were devastating. Many families lost everything. This was my first real jaunt with severe weather so close to my family. Driving through the hail storm was quite scary (the hail itself was larger than golf balls!), but I'm sure it was nothing compared to having your house ripped from above you. Luckily, the small town feel penetrated Hugo and the first day after the tornado, local churches swooped in providing assistance of all kinds, and the city even gave the people that lost their homes a Memorial Day BBQ while they were waiting to get clearance to salvage their belongings. As a future public administrator, I was proud of the City of Hugo, State of Minnesota, and Washington County for mobilizing necessary support and resources in a such a timely and equitable manner.
Other than that and the death of a father of a close friend, my trip home was filled with fun times. A year ago, the pastor at my church asked that I sing at his retirement service, which is exactly what I did for him. After my own renditions of The Lord's Prayer by Malotte, and Ave Maria by Schubert, I gave my pastor a little wink from the front of the church, which, of course, ended up on video tape. He assured me that when he is dying and happy in his old age, he will watch the tape and rewind my wink all day long. Who knew!? Besides church stuff, I went tax-free shopping at three Minnesota Targets (the best Targets will forever be in Minnesota), and had a BBQ with my sister and her husband. Rehearsal for Amanda and Adam's wedding went well, and I'm poised for an awesome farm wedding in August! Now if only airline tickets didn't suck the life out of my bank account....
So now we're back in DC. I did get a new digital camera, finally, and retired the 3.2 mega pixel which went all the way to India and back. The new Canon is working out swimmingly, from the approximately 5 pictures I've taken so far. More pictures to come. I enjoy blogs with pictures the most, so I need to remember to take my own advice.
It's time for me to get a little bit of exercise. My current healthy lifestyle dilemma is that I now exercise so much that I have to eat more. When you increase one, you have to increase the other, but I'm at the point where I really can't exercise any more, so I just have to eat less. Not a happy thought, but something to think about. I can't throw away all my hard work!
